“Sin And Ego Are One And The Same”

I had an interesting experience today, my buddy Eric took us to “Hooters” which is basically a cheesy PG-13 titty bar that serves hamburgers.

So anyway, our little hottie waitress comes over to the table with some ashes on her forehead, so I asked her what that was for.. and she told us that it was something about Chhristian “lent” or something, I forget exactly what it was.

She walked off to go get our stuff and there was the thought, “Oh yeah, we’re in Texas, part of the Christian bible-belt… Let’s see if I can raise her consciousness up a few points.”

So when she came back I said, “You know, I once had an interesting realization about Sin, and it made me feel a whole lot better about myself and lighter in general!”

(I’m starting to talk like these people)

She was *very* interested, you could tell she had a lot of guilt, Christian-style Sin-related guilt, of course. So this really peaked her curiosity.

I said, “Sin is actually just an old-school word for the human ego. The fact that we’re all born in Original Sin is just an old catholic way of saying that we have placed our soul inside of a body, and the ego itself is a sinner because it’s just animal programming.”

You should have seen the look on her face - priceless.

She went blink

Then she went icon_redface

Then she went blink

And then finally, she went biggrin and then cool

She became about twice as beautiful, her consciousness went waaaay up because of that one simple distinction.

These poor Christians, they are so close to enlightenment, yet they’re simultaneously so far from it. They really do suffer needlessly.

So then I said, “God doesn’t create suffering, it’s the human ego that creates suffering, because the human mind & body is basically just an animal, and therefore too spiritually naive and unable to remember the truth of what we are” but that was pushing it and went way over her pretty little head hug

Ahh well, still nice to see the light shine a little bit brighter due to the first statement about Sin really just meaning “the ego”.

But then… it happened.

The light in her eyes went back out, even below where it was when we first arrived.

You see, she noticed me kissing and cuddling with two women, and that freaked her out bigtime.

Ahh you Christians have a lotta fear in ya hug

So I tried to light her back up by making the old joke, “Hey, I love walking up to Christians and slapping their faces and going, ‘forgive me! Slap! Forgive me! Slap! Forgive me!”

That got her smiling again biggrin

Awesome cool

Jesus loves you,
Steph

what you wanted to say is that some of the Religion stuff are bullshit and that it is all about the same thing : ego
    ?

By Christian, do you mean Catholic? They’re the ones that are truly hung up on original sin and guilt etc.

There are many other Christian religions, as well as independent Christian people in general that embrace the teachings of Christ without the hangups on guilt and shame and sin.

I knew it….that ego stuff, that is a much better meaning of the word “sin”. What a simple an understandable explination…If only I knew that when I was in church I would have had a lot less stuff to deal with. Oh well, so is life.

Really great stuff! This and the preceding “Transcending Guilt And Shame, Right Now, Today” are my favourite. What a wonderfully understandable and relevant reminder that grace is within all of us. :) I’d give it 7 stars if I could… In the meanwhile, I’m going to share it with all my friends!
